The Black Women in Architecture Award

In October 2020, a major milestone was achieved, over 500 black women now hold licenses to practice architecture in the United States. This number represents only 0.4% of the total registered architects in the nation. The DVC Memorial Scholarship Foundation seeks to use this award to encourage and support more black women to pursue and achieve licensing in the field of architecture.

The Harrisburg Memorial Award

Harrisburg, Pennsylvania is Desiree’s hometown and where her heart was. She invested in its real estate, consistently gave back to its community efforts, and visited family there often. The DVC Memorial Scholarship seeks to honor her family by awarding a prize to a minority resident of Pennsylvania or who attended school in Pennsylvania.

The DC Memorial Award

The Washington, DC metro area was Desiree’s newest adventure, where she decided to buy a house, to start new roots, and where she honed her craft as an accomplished woman in architecture. The DVC Memorial Scholarship wants to remember her excitement and passion toward her adopted home city by awarding a prize to a minority resident of DC, Maryland, or Virginia.

The NOMA Award
NOMA has been at the forefront of supporting architects from communities of color for nearly 50 years. The DVC Memorial Scholarship seeks to support a larger number of candidates by providing this award for member of NOMA.

All awards are intended to assist recipients cover the registration fees for the Architecture Registration Exam (ARE).
